beloved

I wasn't sure how I needed Him, though the good girl in me knew that I did.

     After all, everyone needs God.

I nearly had to force belief in that statement.

And then, one day I asked God to knock me senseless about His death. I'd just never gotten it before. Thoughts of the Cross never seemed to jolt me awake.

I lived in pretend world that His death didn't matter to me.

But there's something about a prayer like, God show me you, that makes things happen.

When you come to Him with your curiosity and your admittance that you could be wrong, and you stand before Him with even an ounce of willingness and wonder, He takes it and grows it.

He uses specific instances when I fall short and shows me His love for me.

Time and time again I am given grace. And time and time again I have the choice to receive it.

Recently, I had one of those huge life moments when I came face-to-face with this life awakening, jolt defining grace. The kind that really made me stand and believe with all my heart that I really am beloved.

As perhaps the most remarkable, awe-striking events ever, I am changed. I don't want to go back.

I want to live -- truly live -- in bold confidence of my name, Beloved.

Because, He really will go to the trenches to rescue me from myself.

Today's post was part of my friend, Lisa-Jo's fun challenge each Friday to take five and Just. Write.

"...for five, short, bold beautiful minutes... unscripted and unedited...
without worrying if it's just right or not."

on being ready

The other day I wrote about Whimsy.

And as I wrote it I thought about different perspectives. I questioned whether I should write what I did. Because it was partly about consuming and not being practical.

I thought about people who don't even have a car, or maybe theirs is so broken down. Or maybe they are finding themselves standing in a line for food stamps, and their pride being naked. I started to feel badly for my wanting to go on vacation next spring and rent a house on an island on the southeast coast with a handful of friends and their families.

And then I wondered if I was feeling badly only because I should or if I really did feel badly.

Then I got a few highlights in my hair when I got a trim. A choice I said I'd never make. And $70 later I felt sick to my stomach. Because, I wasted. I truly did.

There are people in this world who don't have clean water to drink. It's true, and not just something that is made up to sound like a remarkable story. Contrary to my once naive perspective, clean water isn't everywhere. There are people in our surrounding areas who don't know where they will get their next meal. And there are children who don't have a mom or dad to tuck them in at night or talk with them about life's questions.

Real people are hurting. And I spent all of that money on changing the color of a few strands of my hair?! If I go on that vacation, what then? I'll just want More and never be satisfied.

Disappointment always resides with desire when we make the plans,
because our plans will never be perfect.

I don't feel guilty for buying a MINI. I realize it's a gift. And the moment I forget that is when I should feel bad. I'm not proposing everyone's whimsy is to go buy their dream car. It was okay for me and I've felt peace about it.

But awakening the other day after having a long talk with our neighbor-friend about his recent trip to that dream island, I suddenly lost interest in spending my money that way. And it's how God showed up most poignantly in my day.

He is changing me.

I spent most of the summer complaining that we didn't have plans to go away. We had one weekend get-away and it was when I was sick. I didn't want that trip to count. Beaches and light houses were in my *hopeful* vision. But it just never happened.

Instead, I sat in a quiet forest of trees feverish and fatigued, and I don't think I'll ever forget it. My family cared and together we were, and that's all that matters.

Eventually, I chose gratefulness for that one trip and even my four-week-long bout of sickness.

Because, if it were up to me I'd consume. Even heaps of memories instead of a few big meaningful ones.

The week's when I was sick in the middle of summer were ones where He slowed me. It was the time when my heart was being prepared for something different. My plans were being shredded and I was being readied to accept His.

I'm considering what it means to be ready for whatever He invites me to do.

Awhile back I surrendered birthing another child and even having another one altogether. This is my Anything, as I pray "Whatever you have planned for me, Lord..." I pray this over and over again because sometimes I pick up my plans instead of resting in His. Only He knows if I will ever have another child and whether we'll adopt or have another of our own. For now, I surrender to any. thing.

I'm seeing life as invitations. And choosing Less is one of them. A simpler life.

My son has an interest in travel and culture. And I wonder what that means. I don't feel compelled to travel for the sake of crossing it off my bucket list as I once did. But I wonder if we'll be traveling to help others and who those *others* will be.

I have to be careful not to chagrin other people's choices when my perspective gets altered. And not even myself when my perspective seems too over-the-top.

He leads us all in different ways and we each have a unique story to live.

I want my desires to be His.

Sometimes I get nervous that I'll miss out when I don't actively pursue my dreams all the time. But, I choose to trust that He leads me to choose whimsy at the moments that are right for my story, when my living is indeed by His leading and not by my planning.

Evidence of Him. That's what all of this is about. And it's incredibly remarkable.

Thank you, Father, for the ways you are drawing me closer to your heart.

...a different kind of summer...

...how two weeks at home quieted me to listen...

...the way He's readying me...

...and how I don't need to know for what...

...the Peace He gives me...

...and how I am leaning into it more...

...the ways I am more able to trust Him...

...and how I see Him...

...the way my heart bubbles with joy...

...and most of all, gratitude for every part of my story...

change

It's remarkable, really.

One evening we're talking with our neighbor-friend about the intricate details of arranging such a wonderful-sounding vacation that I insist I must take our family on next April.

And the next morning I awaken with desire for that trip wiped out. A change I still fear to admit out loud because I know my tendency to want.

I wonder if it's guilt that is causing this. Or the questions of whether I should feel guilty.

But truthfully, it's truth and grace.

Because, one question filled my heart: "What Then?"

After such an incredible vacation that we could afford if we wanted to, what then? We'll just want more and desire won't be quenched. And, so much could go wrong. Weather and such.

What if we didn't do what everyone else is doing?

It's a remarkable question filled with wonder and possibility.

Most of all, it's evidence of Him working in my heart. Changing me from the inside out.

noticing change

It happens all the time and often we don't notice.

We shrug it off as common and declare there isn't muchado about anything.

In the *whirl and twirl* of living we can tend to miss out on the purpose of change.

Little things that we doubt have value really are important.

Sometimes what appears small really is quite grand in meaning.

A colleague stopped in my office yesterday morning and asked if I had a quick few minutes. Her topic was one I knew would require much more time than I was willing to give it at the moment, and so I was quick to deflect.

Though I wasn't rude and intentionally asked if we could schedule some time together, my attitude projected stress to my colleague and she sent me a note of encouragement. She noticed a change in my demeanor.

Two other colleagues moved offices yesterday. I believe that this change will affect my relationships with them each. I cannot deny that seeing a colleague every day across the hall will not make me think of her more often.

A few days ago I noticed that my groom seemed rather quiet and reflective. He hadn't even seemed to notice it about himself. A change in his energy level made me take notice.

We can either notice changes happening around us each day or we can ignore them.

As we notice, we can choose courage to trust that not a single moment is wasted.

All. Is. For. Purpose.

His love for us is more evident as we See the way He works in our lives.

Why I might not read your blog

There was a time when I read more blogs than I do now.

Sometimes I spend a whole day reading ones I miss or just discovered.

And that is why I might have unsubscribed or just don't read your blog with the same frequency that I once did.

It isn't because you are boring or unfocused. I cringe to ever think that.
Your place is refreshing and the words you share are meaningful.

Time is precious and I had to make a choice to cut-back,
     so I can *hear*.

I might be back some day. I might comment about how your words really touched me. For now, what I read is limited and who I engage with is an even smaller group.

I want to hear His voice. I want the words I read to be ones that stich me closer to Him and not closer to a quilt patch of chaos.

Sure, I can sort out viewpoints, opinions and stories. But...

There's a point where it becomes *noise*
and where it's more of you I am seeing,
     and less of Him.

The new year has brought with it a readiness for change in my heart, and in this place.

There won't be a place to *comment* here
Quiet and still will be honored, not voice and compliment.

If taking your time to share is a good investment of your living, then please write to me directly.

We can more deliberately correspond that way, and more privately share. And if it takes me a bit to respond, please know your words aren't unheard.

In this new year I will trust that the words I write will be for *purpose.*
And, writing for One needs to be enough for me, anyway.
