ceasing perfect

Father, we come . . .

with all our plans and pretty pins.

with all our wanting to delight them.

you tell us they will remember our giving hearts.

you tell us they will remember our laughing ways.

you tell us they will remember our togetherness.

might the peace we reflect be what lasts more than even us.

might the perfection we cease be what frees them to live.

might the plans we loose be what frees us to love.

video-game playing . . . wooded walks . . . hands held tightly . . .

long hugs . . . lazy pajama days . . . picnics in the park . . .

these all are lovely.

might our loosening be ever lovely-er.

amen.
